Shotcrete vs. Gunite

Shotcrete and Gunite are two commonly used terms for substances applied via pressure hoses. Shotcrete is mortar or (usually) concrete conveyed through a hose and pneumatically projected at high velocity onto a surface. Shotcrete undergoes placement and compaction at the same time due to the force with which it is projected from the nozzle. It can be impacted onto any type or shape of surface, including vertical or overhead areas. Gunite refers only to the dry-mix process, in which the dry cementitious mixture is blown through a hose to the nozzle, where the water is injected immediately prior to application.

Layout and Excavation

Layout
The first step is to layout the pool in your backyard as we did on your plans. This shows you where the pool locaton will be in relation to the rest of the backyard.

Excavation
Pool excavation requires heavy machinery including an excavator and dumptrucks. The form boards for the pool are set and the pool is excavated. When the excavation is finished, the excavated hole resembles the same shape of the finished product.

Plumbing and Steel

Plumbing
A crew will dig trenches around the excavated pool and install the circulation plumbing pipes between the pool and the filtration system. The plumbing is pressure tested and inspected for leaks prior to backfilling the ditches.

Reinforcing Steel Installation
A crew will install the reinforcing steel to the shape of your pool. This steel reinforcing helps hold the shotcrete structure of the pool together.

Shotcrete Application

Shotcreting a pool is one of the most impressive parts of the pool construction process due to the equipment involved and the skilled craftsmen that shape the pool. The shotcrete is pneumatically applied over the steel to form a single piece shotcrete shell. The craftsmen will trim out the final shape of the pool. When the crew leaves, the pool structure is in place and it becomes evident what the pool shape actually is.

Surface Finishing and Electrical

Tile & Coping Installation
The tile and coping that surrounds the pool is then installed. This begins to dress up the pool structure, giving your pool an attractive and safe pool per meter.

Preparation of Surface and Installing the Plaster
The surface is then cleaned and prepared for installation of the waterproofing surface, which is usually plaster. The skilled craftsmen will trowel the surface until it is smooth. The pool then begins filling.

Equipment Installation
The Hayward brand pump and filter system is now installed and set into place. Click here to go to: Hayward Pump & Filter Systems

Electrical
The electrical work of installing power to the pool filtration equipment and to the underwater light is done at this time.

Concrete Deck Installation
It is at this time that the deck is laid out, formed up, poured, and finished. Control joints are also installed at this time.

Landscaping-Water Analyzation-Inspection

Final List and Inspection
We then have a final list that we go through that includes such things as installing the diving board, ladder, install the automatic cleaner, pool light as well as other things to complete the pool for your use.

Explain System & Chemistry
It is at this time that we explain the complete operation of the pool. We want you to have as much knowledge as possible, as we feel that the more you know the happier that you will be with the swimming pool.
